CUSTOM BAG BUYER GUIDE

Custom EVA Case Cost and Tooling Guide

Understand the cost drivers behind a custom EVA case: shell size, foam inserts, tooling, branding, quantity, packing and repeat orders.

Separate tooling cost from the unit price

A custom EVA hard case normally has two cost layers: one-time development or mould tooling, and the per-piece production cost. Tooling depends on the shell shape, size, complexity and whether an existing case profile can be adapted. Keep it clearly separated in the quotation so you can compare suppliers fairly and plan repeat orders with confidence.

Shell size and profile set the starting point

Larger shells use more EVA, fabric, lining and labour. A deep case, unusual corner profile, multiple zipper tracks or a shaped lid can also require more complex tooling. Share the product dimensions and the items to be protected early; a factory can then recommend a practical shell size instead of quoting from a single reference image alone.

The interior retention system changes the cost

A flat foam pad costs far less than a precise die-cut insert, CNC-cut foam, moulded EVA tray or multi-layer presentation layout. The best option depends on the product shape, protection level and order quantity. For a camera, medical device, tool or electronics case, the interior is often the part that creates the real buyer value.

Branding and components should be quoted by method

Silk-screen printing, debossing, woven labels, metal plates, rubber patches and zipper-puller logos have different setup costs and minimums. Confirm the logo artwork, placement, colour and finish before sample approval. The same applies to zipper brand, puller shape, handle, shoulder strap, mesh pocket and packaging insert.

Quantity, colour and packing affect the final landed cost

Higher quantities usually spread tooling and setup cost across more units, while small runs may need a simpler construction. Multiple shell or lining colours can add material and changeover cost. Export carton size, individual polybags, hangtags and destination requirements should be part of the first quote, not an afterthought.

Use the sample to remove expensive uncertainty

Before bulk production, confirm the approved shell, zipper, foam fit, logo and packing method on a physical sample. Record every approved material and dimension. This gives the factory a controlled production reference and helps avoid avoidable cost changes after the order is placed.

Ask for a quote you can compare

For a meaningful custom EVA case quotation, provide the item dimensions, protection need, estimated quantity, logo method, target market and delivery date. If you are still developing the idea, ask for two routes: a cost-efficient adapted shell and a fully custom shell with dedicated tooling.
